Polytechnika Ślaska Gliwice

Current research at Politechnika Ślaska in Gliwice is focused on several fields, including modeling and simulation of material properties and studying their corrosion resistance for the automotive industry. A major area is the creation of new structures and properties of surface and subsurface layers of engineering materials. The Institute of Engineering Materials and Biomaterials has well-equipped laboratories, which can be used to continue the research and to try to expand the current state of knowledge within the project.

The research activities of the institution will be focused on materials processing, mechanical testing of non-ferrous metallic materials, composite and nanostructured materials, phase transformations, as well as the investigation of phases in various manufacturing processes and their functional properties. Research activities will focus on heat-treated parts, thermo-chemical and thermo-plastic transformations, PVD and CVD processes in the formation of coatings using laser reflow and alloying methods. Research activities are devoted to electron microscopy. The Institute and other departments of the University can provide capacity and technical equipment for the project research activity 3 - Postprocessing.

University of Žilina

Researchers at the University of Žilina are involved in the processing and treatment of materials produced by additive manufacturing. That involves the evaluation of the surface and microstructure of samples using non-destructive methods based on the principle of X-ray diffraction. An important area of research is also the analysis of the mechanical properties of materials using high-frequency methods.

The scientific research activities of the Department of Machining and Manufacturing Technology will be focused on the evaluation of individual surface integrity parameters, and the residual stresses contained in the surface in particular. The department also has high-quality measuring machines for scanning and evaluating the topography of the obtained surfaces. The department scientific research activities will be carried out under sub-activity 3 - post-processing.

Fraunhofer, Institut für Werkzeaugmaschinen und Umformtechnik IWU

The Fraunhofer Institute is a leader in innovation and research in additive technologies. The Institute develops potential, develops new solutions, and improves available technologies in science and research. The project cooperation will aim to strengthen the innovation capacity and the achievable potential of companies and thus foster cooperation concerning the requirements of practice in basic and industrial research, on an international level.

The research activities of the institution will be focused on materials processing and mechanical testing of concepts in steel materials of different scanning parameters. Scientific research activities will focus on material behavior after heat treatment and internal defects, especially porosity. The research activities will take into account new approaches to mold design with conformal cooling, which increases the efficiency of injection molds and extends their lifetime. Research activities will be dedicated to electron microscopy. The Institute's scientific research activities are interwoven with all research activities.

V-Nass

For many years V-NASS, a.s. has been among the best manufacturers of precision machine parts not only in the Czech Republic but also in the world. The company has been focusing on the very precise and technologically demanding production of machine parts in various fields. Particularly, these are parts for subsea oil production, parts for nuclear power plants, and parts for machinery.

Cooperation with the company has been established in the field of additive manufacturing, i.e. 3D printing of powdered metals. This cooperation also includes the production of bachelor's and master's theses, which are evaluated as beneficial to both R&D and industry. A major challenge and effort will be to bring additive technology more closely into practice and to highlight its position in the labor market.
